Born in Hong Kong, Dr. Ken Chu currently serves as a National Committee Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Council Member of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Chairman and CEO of Mission Hills Group.

As a leader in China’s hospitality and leisure industry, Ken has spurred the Group’s business expansion based on the “Golf and More” leisure philosophy. Today, the Group’s businesses span the provinces of Guangdong and Hainan, with Mission Hills being recognised as a National 5A-Level Scenic Spot, and accredited as the “World’s Largest Golf Club” and “World’s Largest Mineral Springs and Spa Resort” by the Guinness World Records. Under Ken’s vision and leadership, Mission Hills has evolved as a dynamic and creative conglomerate with eight major business segments incorporating golf tourism; integrated sports development; leisure & commercial ventures; tourism real estate; culture & entertainment; education; health & wellness; and brand partnership.

Ken plays a pivotal role as a super-connector, bringing into China brand offerings and experiences from around the globe to build the different concepts spanning retail-tainment, edu-tainment and more. He established partnerships including the Mission Hills•Huayi Brothers•Feng Xiaogang Movie Town, an attraction and studio site for more than a dozen mega-productions annually, as well as working with Guangxi Investment Group to introduce the world-class SplashCity water park. The Group also partnered with Bromsgrove School, a top British independent school with over 540 years of history, to offer an innovative and holistic bilingual education at Bromsgrove School Mission Hills.

The Group is committed to sports development and has partnered Futbol Club Barcelona (FCB) and NBA to make Hainan province a hub for football and basketball, spurring the growth of these sports from the grassroots. These include setting up China’s first FCB-managed football academy and NBA Basketball School as well as interactive experiences at Mission Hills Haikou.

By actively promoting cultural and sports exchanges between China and the world, Ken has introduced more than 100 international sporting events and visits by Hollywood stars to China. Using sports as the common language, he continues to tell the story of China and spread its goodwill to the world.

Tenniel Chu, born in 1976 in Hong Kong, is the Vice Chairman of Mission Hills Group.

Upon graduating with a degree in economics from the University of Toronto in Canada, Tenniel pursued his passion for golf by studying Professional Golf Management at Humber College. On completing his studies, he worked at US PGA TOUR headquarters and underwent a unique management training program in the departments of golf operations, PGA tournament event organization, golf maintenance, golf shops, and merchandising control. In 2001, he joined the family business and now oversees the overall operations and development of the world’s largest golf club as recognized by the Guinness World Records. Under Tenniel’s leadership, the Golf Club has both met and exceeded international standards to become the benchmark for other golf and leisure operators in China.

Mission Hills Group is owner and operator of Mission Hills Golf Club, the largest golf facility in the world, located in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Haikou. Mission Hills is pioneering the golf and leisure tourism industry in China. Tenniel has played in important role in international tournament bids as well as attracting international golf stars to Mission Hills. By 2011, Mission Hills had hosted over 100 tournaments and many renowned golfers, including consecutive editions of the World Cup; hosting Tiger Woods’ first visit to China in 2001 and again in 2011; the Dynasty Cup (Asian Ryder Cup) in 2003; and the Goodwill Trophy in 2005.

Under Tenniel`s leadership, Mission Hills has a series of golf tournaments including competitions for professionals, amateurs, juniors and seniors. In 2004, he created the first ever ‘Golf Marathon’ called Golfathon, in celebration of Mission Hill’s formal recognition as the World’s Largest Golf Club. With the successful completion of the 10th edition this year, there have been tens of thousands of participants from over twenty countries competing in the multi-course competition. In 2006, Mission Hills hosted the Asia Pacific Open Amateur Championship for three consecutive years. In 2010, the European Senior Tour ISPS Handa Senior World Championship was held in Mission Hills which was the first ever Senior Tour event in China. Mission Hills was selected to be the host venue of the 26th Universiade in August 2011.

Mission Hills has also hosted several international profile tournaments including two editions of World Celebrity Pro-Am tournament, a ground-breaking celebrity pro-am golf tournament for Asia, four editions of World Cup of Golf and two editions of World Ladies Championship. In Nov 2012, Mission Hills welcomed the WGC- HSBC Champions to the Olazabal course at Mission Hills Dongguan. The occasion marked the first time a WGC event being staged in the Pearl River Region of southern China and created a golf spectacle for the fans that turned out to watch the world’s best players in action.

Tenniel has spearheaded Mission Hills’ industry-leading emphasis on junior golf development. He is active in creating opportunities and nurturing the region’s next generation of champion golfers through initiatives such as the Mission Hills Golf Series Junior Tour, the Faldo Series Asia, the Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship and the first ever female junior only tournament in China – Mission Hills Annika Junior Girls Championship. These events provide opportunities for the Chinese and Asian youth to have closer contact with golf and help nurture the next generation of golf stars in the world.  He also brought the world’s leading golf instructors and touring professionals to Mission Hills, bolstering the club’s reputation as a “University of Golf.” Nowadays, Mission Hills Academies are stretching from Shenzhen, Dongguan and Haikou to offer the world class facilities, equipment and world renowned golf instructors.

Through his golf ambassadorial role in China, Tenniel is appointed as president of Gongdong Golf Association and he established the provincial junior team’s training at Mission Hills since 2009. He is also appointed by One Asia as Secretary-General with a brief to help develop relations with national and international golf bodies. Tenniel has also shared his views and visions for Mission Hills at many golf conferences and tourism trade exhibitions. These include the highly respected international golf event KPMG Golf Business Forum, the Asia-Pacific Golf Development Summit, the Golf Inc. Conference and the International Association of Golf Tourism Organization events. In 2011, inspired by Tenniel and with his assistance, the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), which covers 84 countries and has over 1600 members, established its first office in China, located in Haikou. Tenniel was also the first Chinese national to become a member at the world’s oldest Golf Club – Royal and Ancient Golf Club.

In addition to his duties with Mission Hills, Tenniel is actively involved in Hong Kong and Mainland China charity and community services such as the United Nations Charity Golf event, the Golfers “5.12 Fund Raising Golf Campaign” (the Largest One Day Golf Tournament accredited by the Guinness World Record). In addition, Tenniel was a torchbearer for both Beijing’s 2008 Olympics and Shenzhen’s 2011 Universiade.
