Introducing Heritage Golf Club

Our new associate in Mauritius

Dear Members,

We are delighted to inform you that we have signed a new associate arrangement with an exciting
new club in Mauritius --- Heritage Golf Club.

Le Château Golf Course set in the stunning scenery of Bel Ombre, Mauritius offers a golfer's paradise. Designed by the renowned Rodney Wright and opened in 2004, this 18-hole championship course seamlessly integrates natural beauty with a challenging layout. The course winds its way through rolling Mauritian terrain, offering breathtaking vistas of the Indian Ocean and lush vegetation. Strategically placed lakes and waterways come into play on several holes, adding an element of water hazard to the game. The fairways are generous, yet cleverly bunkered, demanding accuracy from players of all skill levels.

Carefully curated in the lush, landscaped grounds of an elegant 19th century chateau, and naturally blessed with lakes, streams and grand centenary trees, stepping out onto the Le Château Golf Course is like playing in a tropical garden. On gentle foothills and generous fairways that sweep down to the ocean, this pristine preserve, exquisitely conditioned year round, is consistently voted the Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Course. Follow in the footsteps of champions and experience a tournament quality course that has hosted multiple editions of the Mauritius Open, a DP World Tour event.

Peter Matkovich, one of the most productive modern golf course designers in South Africa, was the architect who fashioned the Château course at the Heritage Golf Club (formerly known as Golf du Château) within the enormous Domaine de Bel Ombre estate on the southwest coast of Mauritius. Unveiled in 2004, the course is characterised by mainly wide fairways and sizeable putting surfaces, a number of which are guarded by water. There are a few elevation changes along the way which force a blind approach to greens and the rivers Citronniers and St Martin come into play on occasion.

In May 2015 the Heritage Golf Club hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, the first tri-sanctioned golf tournament endorsed by the Sunshine, European and Asian Tours. George Coetzee overcame Thorbjørn Olesen in a play-off to win the inaugural title.

In 2016 Anahita hosted the Mauritius Open but the event returned to the Heritage in November 2017. Dylan Frittelli won that edition after a playoff with Arjun Atwal then the event moved back to Anahita before returning to Heritage in 2019, with Denmark’s Rasmus Hojgarrd winning a 3-man playoff after he eagled the third extra hole.

Le Chateau Golf Course at Heritage Golf Club, Mauritius, consistently voted the Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Course, is carefully curated within the lush, landscaped grounds of a 19th century chateau. Stepping out into a pristine preserve of gentle foothills and generous fairways lined by centenary trees, and following in the footsteps of DP World Tour champions, this is a golf experience of extraordinary natural beauty.
