HONG KONG MALE STAR MICHAEL YUEN WON THE 16TH MISSION HILLS JACK NICKLAUS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
In the highly anticipated 16th edition of the Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship at Mission Hills Dongguan, Hong Kong Golfer Michael Yuen fired a stunning tournament-low round of 66 to finish with 213 (72-75-66), clinching the 16th edition of the Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship title, while MingHe Huang took home the overall girls’ title with a 216 finish (71-75-70).
This year's event attracted nearly 100 players from all over the world, with some of the best players in the region; Jingcheng Wang (215) and WeiXiang Tang (220) were the runners-up in the boys’ 13-18 category and Kexin Liu (219) won the girls’ 13-18 category. Bingbing Jiang (220) and YiChen Huang (239) in the girls’ 13-18 category. Chen Xuancheng Liu (237) won the boys’ 10-12 category.With a final score of 224, Shengxun Cao was the boys’ 8-9 champion.
In 2008, Sir Jack Nicklaus, a world-famous golfer and winner of 18 Grand Slam records, co-founded the "Mission Hills Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship" with Mission Hills. Beginning in 2010, the results of this competition will be included in the rankings of world amateur players and will also be included in the rankings of the R&A and the China Golf Association. The stakes remain high at Leadbetter Course at Mission Hills Dongguan as the leading players will be invited to compete in the Nicklaus Junior Championship, played at the beautiful Hills Course of Jonathan's Landing Golf Club's Hills Course in the United States for free. More and more young golf enthusiasts gradually go to the whole country and the world through the platform of Mission Hills. Ruoning Yin, a new-generation player of the national golf team who just won her first LPGA championship trophy in her career, was a frequent visitor to the Mission Hills Youth Tournament. In 2019, Ruoning Yin, who was just 16 years old, scored "-5" in Mission Hills. The female golfer Annika, who watched the game on the spot, praised her and said, "It's hard to imagine that she is just a 16-year-old youth. You can’t achieve such a result at the same age!" In addition, Guxin Chen, Ye Wocheng, Yang Tong, Xiang Sui, Tianyi Xiong, and other new-generation players who are active in the forefront of domestic professional and amateur players have all participated in Mission Hills youth competitions or the training system. The successfully upgraded Mission Hills National Youth Golf Invitational Tournament and the Mission Hills Youth Series Finals will be held on November 23–26 at the Norman Course in Mission Hills, Dongguan. The overall champions and top three players in each category will also be invited to participate in the finals of the Mission Hills Youth Series 2023 and the Faldo Series Shenzhen Championship. The competition will last for three rounds with a total of 54 holes, and this year it has been officially upgraded to an L4-level event hosted by the China High School Association. The top three players in each category will be invited to participate in this newly upgraded event. The participating players will be composed of outstanding golfers in each group of the HSBC National Youth Ranking List, as well as the champions of each group of this year's Mission Hills Youth Series, elite players who registered through open channels, and wild card qualifiers.
